Amelia custom milk paint color with coral floral knobs 022

Amelia floral lined drawers and coral knobs 067

Months ago I picked up this very old oak chest of drawers at an auction. The oak boards on the top had separated leaving an irregular gap along the top and the drawers would fall forward if you pulled them out  just far enough to get into them.  I started to make the repairs, but other projects kept creeping in so I outsourced the repairs to a local woodworking company I’ve used previously. About a week later, she was back and ready for me to put my design ideas to the test.

She is hand painted in a custom blue-green milk paint and sealed with 3 coats of satin poly.  The color is what I call an uncertain color.  The light hits it and sometimes it appears as a shade of  blue and other times green.  I love those kind of colors.  The coral floral knobs add texture and a certain sweetness to the piece.  Her drawers are lined with graphic floral paper that I just couldn’t resist.  The paper has shades of blue, green, and coral, which compliments the exterior design perfectly. She is my darling “Amelia.”

I wish you could experience how smooth the finish is and yet how the oak grain still comes through.  It is seems so natural, almost as if the paint and the wood are one. The wood purists may be angry that I painted this oak piece, but I think the oak is happy again.  If I had been blessed with a little girl, I would have loved to decorate her room with this piece.

“Amelia” will be for sale ($450) in my Etsy Shop later this week.  Linking up at Miss Mustard Seed’s Furniture Feature Friday.

Don’t Stop

Don't Stop via

There are a many things in my life which slow down or derail me. I’m not going to complain about them, but sometimes these “things” seem so insurmountable that I want to give up.  This quote/illustration makes me smile and reminds me to just keep moving forward…even if I’m not able to accomplish what I want as quickly as I want or need.  If there are things weighing on you or that seem to constantly impede progress…. Just remember…”Don’t Stop” moving forward.  Inch by inch. Centimeter by centimeter. Make each step count and keep moving forward…
